Common Ground MontgomeryDesire Street Ministries is providing strategic support and encouragement to a life-changing ministry in Alabama, Common Ground Montgomery.
After completing seminary, Bryan Kelly and his wife Delta felt God’s call to minister in the Washington Park area of western Montgomery, AL. But God began tugging at the Kellys' hearts much earlier when Bryan participated in Desire Street Ministries’ Urban Institute. During that time, he learned first-hand about urban ministry activities which were making a difference in the Desire Street neighborhood of New Orleans’ Ninth Ward. So the Kelly’s moved to Montgomery and founded Common Ground Montgomery. Bryan began coaching baseball at Carver High School there and got involved in kids’ lives. Today, they and other staff hold weekly Bible studies with 60 students and tutor 40 kids after school. They hope to plant a church in the coming year.A transformation is starting to be noticed by neighborhood residents. They have seen how CGM is helping keep their kids out of trouble and providing positive role models where few exist. Recently one of the Washington Park residents donated her property to CGM so that the ministry can build a facility.
