Read a Brief Updte on Ministry
I remember the first time I grasped the vision of Desire Street Ministries.
It was 1997 and I had recently moved to New Orleans, having been drafted by the Saints. One day a brochure about the ministry arrived from one of its Board members, Dr. Scott Donaldson. I remember being struck by the twofold mission of Desire Street: to transform the Desire neighborhood into a desirable place to live, and to replicate that ministry model in other places across the country.
Transforming the Desire Neighborhood
On this webpage, I regularly count the blessings of all the ways God has worked through this ministry in the Ninth Ward of New Orleans and beyond. And we’ve got even more plans, programs and dreams for the Ninth Ward—new ministries for our neighbors who are still dealing with the loss of loved ones, property and hope. I’m personally very pleased to see that the Desire neighborhood continues to be a strong point of our emphasis.
Replicating the Ministry Model
I also regularly talk about our continuing vision to replicate the Desire Street Ministries model. We’ve spent a good deal of time dreaming and planning how best to position DSM in order to transform even more impoverished neighborhoods into desirable places to live. The resulting answer is that our Board has decided to move our business office to Atlanta, GA around August 1, 2008.
Relocating to Atlanta to Position for Our Next Phase of Ministry
We have many details to pull together before our anticipated move on August 1, 2008. Most importantly, we want to be sure that we do not lose track of any of our ministry partners during our move. So please “stay tuned” for our August newsletter announcing our new location and other changes—we really want to stay in touch with you.
Our vision and mission today is the same as it has always been—we remain committed to our passion to see the Desire neighborhood become a desirable place to live. We are eager to spread that vision to other impoverished neighborhoods. The Board and staff of Desire Street Ministries are confident that this move to Atlanta will stimulate both.
God bless,
