Why Atlanta?

Experience and wise counsel suggested we locate our business office away from ministry branches in order to avoid confusion, interference and hindered growth of ministry leaders. As we prayed through the options and decision factors, it became clear that Atlanta, GA is the best place to relocate our business office in order to move Desire Street Ministries into its next phase of future ministry.

Here are a few reasons why that city kept coming to the top of our list:

• Atlanta is a Southern city with a long history of racial issues, affording a well-perceived setting for a ministry whose goal is racial reconciliation and urban transformation.
  
  
• There are several pockets of poverty in and around Atlanta, which present several possibilities for connecting with and staying grounded in urban ministry.
  
  
• Atlanta has a large evangelical community which would be a resource for making connections important to the work and funding of DSM, as well as for strengthening relationships enabling us to grow our understanding and effectiveness in urban ministry.
  
  
• It provides a more strategic travel location, offering the largest airport in the world.
  
  
• There is a large pool of experienced non-profit Christian personnel for staffing.
