Planting a church...

We're looking for skilled construction workers to help refurbish our new building for the St. Roch Community Church. If interested, please contact Ben McLeish at
504-940-5771 or ben@strochcc.org.

Desire Street Ministries is working to replicate its model of incarnational ministry and indigenous leadership development by undertaking and strategically supporting similar urban ministries in other underserved communities. As a result, a new church is springing to life in the
St. Roch and St. Claude neighborhoods, adjacent to the
Desire community.

St. Roch Community Church is a multi-cultural congregation that preaches the Gospel in word and deed, intentionally reaches and disciples youth, and seeks to address the communities’ felt needs as a body of believers. Visit the St. Roch church website.

Since it's launch in January 2007, numerous outreach events have been held along with weekly Bible studies and worship services. The core group has already assisted with several small rehab projects including building a playground at a neighborhood school. Vacation Bible school over the summer drew 60+ children and almost every one prayed to receive Christ.

Pastor J.B. Watkins and his wife Stephanie (seen at right) have moved into the neighborhood, coming from an urban ministry in Memphis, TN.

Informal after-school tutoring has begun, and several community development projects are being planned.

As a result of the Lord’s leading and answered prayer, Desire Street Ministries purchased two adjoining properties in the St. Roch neighborhood to serve the needs of the new church plant. The properties are located at 1734 and 1738 St. Roch Avenue, New Orleans, LA.

Clean-up and gutting of the properties have begun and we hope to complete as much of the renovations by volunteer labor as possible. If you are interested and have a team of people skilled in construction, please contact Ben McLeish at 504-940-5771 or by email at ben@strochcc.org.

Needs

The growing core group continues to pray for families who are led by God to move to the neighborhood and help with the church plant, fulfilling the great command of loving God and loving their neighbors.

Please pray, too, for the quick completion of the worship building. Worship services are quickly outgrowing members' homes, and outreach events are being held in nearby yards and streets.

If you would be interested in financially supporting this work,
please contact Barry Snyder at development@desirestreet.org or
866-633-0070.
