Read a Brief Updte on Ministry
“We continually remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope
in
our Lord Jesus Christ.”
1 Thessalonians 3
So far, this spring has been a busy one! I don’t know about you, but I always tell myself that things will slow down soon, and yet, they never do. Instead, the Lord just keeps giving me endurance and occasional rest – it’s the precious time with my family, friends and, of course, my wonderful Savior, that encourages me and keeps me focused on the real heart of what matters.

I had the honor recently of meeting the President of the United States when he awarded LSU marketing professor Randy Raggio the President's Volunteer Service Award for tutoring students at Desire Street Academy (DSA) in math and ACT exam preparation.
In referring to the efforts of all those who support DSA as well as relief, recovery and rebuilding efforts following Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, Raggio said, "This award is not about me. Your dividend will be strong leaders, strong families and strong communities that are prepared and ready to serve when the call comes."

Faith, love and hope are the reasons we
do what we do at Desire Street Ministries. Or at least I hope they are. I think, at some level, that is true, but it’s also easy to get caught up in the race and press of deadlines and activities, and we simply go from one thing to the next because we have to, not because we love God and hope in a pragmatic way for the day when Jesus will return and all things will be made new.
Thinking about what motivates us is important, because our motives will many times dictate our responses. If we get caught up in worrying about ourselves and our schedules and end up getting endurance from something or someone other than Jesus, then we’ll be irritated when things don’t go according to plan and disappointed with people who don’t measure up to our expectations. But if we remember that life is a journey that’s meant to be shared with those we meet along the way, we’ll probably be more likely to share our faith, love and hope with them ... and we also won’t be so quick to lose sight of it ourselves.
We are continually grateful for all the people who stand by and support this ministry – displaying their faith, love and hope in God and in our work of equipping and encouraging leaders to transform impoverished communities through spiritual and community development.
