Click here to print a 2008 application. I’ve recently returned from a trip to Orlando, FL and Jackson, MS and I’m reminded of how grateful I am for good friends. A friend is someone with whom you have an on-going relationship, someone who is there for you when you need them, and someone with whom you make a special effort to keep in touch. I wish I had enough hours in the day to personally keep in touch with all my friends who are reading this website. Another thing I’ve had the pleasure of doing recently is to attend a signing ceremony for six of our Desire Street Academy seniors who will be attending and playing ball for Division I colleges. It’s amazing, really, when you consider that our small school in Baton Rouge Relationships are a key in our progress in New Orleans as well. As neighbors are working to move back home to the Ninth Ward, we are pursuing these friendships and working to “be there” for them when they need us. Of course, the St. Roch Community Church (SRCC) plant has been actively working to build relationships since its inception a year ago, and is seeing exciting fruit from that ministry. For instance, the tutoring program there has helped one young student go from a report card of Ds and Fs, to one with all Bs and Cs … and we are celebrating! Finally, having just closed our books on 2007, we are reflecting on how appreciative we are of our partners in ministry, who support us financially as well as through prayer. The Bible tells us, “underneath are the everlasting arms,” and so, to God be all the glory for the relationship building with Him that is an everyday part of Desire Street Ministries. received more signings on National Signing Day than any metro-area New Orleans school, including schools that are much bigger than we are. It will soon be time for these young men to graduate and move away from our day-to-day lives, but we look forward to maintaining an on-going relationship with them.
