Read a Brief Update on Ministry
Join us for a work day in New Orleans on February 4th! Contact Marcia Peterson at mpeterson@desirestreet.org for more information. The holidays were a special blessing this year. I cherished the time with my family, especially teaching my 4-year-old to ride his bike, and our 1-year-old to sit on the swing at the playground. Watching him learn to hold on and swing by himself was a thrill.
Over the holidays, my world finally slowed down a little and I’m feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. The Bible says the Lord’s “mercies are new every morning” and I certainly feel that’s true today.
That’s also the way I feel about Desire Street Ministries. When I sit down to recap 2007, I feel very blessed and I’m really encouraged about 2008. We have encouraging news on almost all ministry fronts and if funds allow, we have some opportunities for potential new ministry in oth er cities.
I could not be more excited about the work going on at St. Roch Community Church, our church plant in New Orleans. I enjoyed seeing the beautiful faces and all the excitement at church this past Sunday night.
And things are shaping up well with CDC 58:12 to make some traction this year in building houses. In Baton Rouge, I think this is going to be a defining year for Desire Street Academy.
Almost 2½ years ago, I vividly remember having a conference call with our Board of Directors wondering if DSM would survive Hurricane Katrina. I’ve been overwhelmed to see how God has not only sustained this ministry, but “enlarged our territory.” And as I look at what’s on the horizon for 2008, I’m grateful to God and thankful for you—our supporters—for your encouragement and prayers as we seek to transform impoverished neighborhoods through spiritual and community development.
Serving with You,
