Aug 2005 : A Summer Full of Fun and Ministry

Camp Arrowhead Was A Huge Success

For the last 8 years I’ve had the privilege of going to a cool adventure camp with Desire Street Ministries, either as a camper or as a counselor; from KAA in Missouri to the mountains in North Georgia. Through my experience of camping with kids I’ve come to realize that if you want to bring kids to Christ wholesale (in bulk), try to plan the best camp you possibly can. And that’s what we did this year. We traveled to camp on Memorial Day with nearly 70 campers and counselors (DSM/DSA staff) and with more hearts that needed changing than ever before, proving God continues His work in Desire.

For the first time we were at a camp site where we had complete control, without the time-consuming task of driving to every activity. Camp Arrowhead in North Carolina was the perfect place to complete the plans we had for this camp. We were looking forward to having the best adventure camp in DSM’s history, and I’ll be honest, I think we accomplished our goal. We had tons of fun in the worst weather possible. Yep, it was rainy every day and cold every night, but with all odds against us we still had tons of fun. Rivalries began to form as soon as we jumped off the bus, making the activities both fun and competitive. Have you ever been blobbed? What about eight times in a row in less than four minutes? Sounds nice doesn’t it? What about white water rafting down the Nantahala River? We all were inducted into different Indian tribes and became part of the Arrowhead story and legacy.

And I just can’t forget about the praise, worship and speakers. You can’t get any better than CZ (Curtis Zachary) for music, who is the best Christian rapper I know! Anthony Pollard (DSA History teacher) a pastoral speaker is without a doubt able to speak so clearly that both young and old listen and understand. And to put the icing on the cake, Steve Fitzhugh and Shawn Harper (both former NFL football players) were special guest speakers.

Many lives were saved in North Carolina, thanks to God for making it possible. But the most incredible time on this trip came when some of our boys prayed to receive Christ and their friends embraced them and hugged each other the way Christ wants us to love one another. Camp couldn’t have been better. So we praise God and thank people like you who pray for and support this program. Thanks a lot!
