About DSMLed by God's heart for the poor, the desire of our hearts is to see impoverished neighborhoods become desirable places to live.
Therefore, DSM's mission is to encourage and equip leaders to transform impoverished neighborhoods through spiritual and community development.
By joining together people from all walks of life who are interested in redeeming the inner-city, we believe that we are marrying together something that represents the bigger Kindom of God -- incarnational leaders who actually move into the neighborhood, indigenous leaders who already live there, and neighbors who "move in" spiritually through prayer, encouragement and financial support.
Four biblical foundational truths form and influence our core beliefs and values in ministry.
While ministry in each of DSM's locations is different depending upon the needs of the neighborhood (read about our current ministry structure), all strive to be holistic in applying God's redemptive work to the spiritual, physcial, mental, emotional and social aspect of the individual, the community and the larger social system.
DSM's history reflects our incarnational philosophy of ministry: urban ministry leaders choose to live in the neighborhoods they serve in order to seek transformation from within. Our on-going commitment to indigenous leadership development means that we endeavor to equip and encourage local leaders from the neighborhood to continue the transformation as models of the holistic change that only Christ can bring.
We recognize the ways racism and injustice contribute to the cycle of poverty and we seek to combat them through education, communication and relationship-building in all aspects of our ministry and public interface.
